AI Response Not Generating

Last updated: 2026-02-19·4 min read

Quick Summary

If the AI is not generating responses for your reviews, there are a few settings and conditions to check. This article covers the most common reasons why AI response generation might not be working and how to resolve each one.

Check Your Response Quota

AI response generation consumes your monthly quota. If you have reached your quota limit for the current billing period, the AI will stop generating new responses until your quota resets or you upgrade your plan.

  1. Check your quota usage on the Dashboard overview page. The quota progress bar shows your current usage.
  2. If the bar is full or shows 100%, your quota is exhausted for this billing cycle.
  3. You can upgrade your plan immediately from Settings to receive additional quota, or wait for your quota to reset at the start of your next billing period.

Verify Auto-Reply Settings by Rating

ResponseIQ allows you to enable or disable automatic AI response generation for specific star rating ranges. If auto-reply is disabled for a particular rating, reviews with that rating will be synced but will not receive AI-generated responses.

  1. Navigate to Settings from the sidebar menu.
  2. Click on the AI Configuration tab.
  3. Scroll to the "Auto-Reply Rules" section.
  4. Verify that the star ratings you expect responses for have their toggles enabled. For example, if you want responses for 1-star reviews, make sure the 1-star toggle is turned on.
  5. Click "Save Changes" if you make any adjustments.

Note

By default, auto-reply is enabled for all star ratings (1 through 5). If you have customized these settings in the past, it is possible that certain ratings were disabled intentionally or accidentally.

Confirm the Location Is Active

AI response generation only works for locations that are active in your dashboard. If a location has been paused, reviews for that location may still appear in your list (if they were synced before the pause), but no new AI responses will be generated for them.

Go to the Locations page, find the relevant location, and ensure its status indicator shows active (green dot). If it is paused, toggle it back to active and the AI will begin generating responses for any unprocessed reviews at that location.

Check for Service Disruptions

In rare cases, AI response generation may be temporarily unavailable due to a service disruption with our AI provider. If all of the above settings are correct and the AI is still not generating responses, check the ResponseIQ status page for any ongoing incidents.

Pro Tip

If you encounter a service disruption, you do not need to take any action. The system will automatically generate responses for any reviews that were missed once service is restored. No reviews are skipped or lost during outages.
