Google Account Disconnected
Quick Summary
If your Google Business Profile connection shows as disconnected or expired in ResponseIQ, you will need to re-authenticate to restore review syncing and response publishing. This article explains why disconnections happen and how to reconnect your Google account.
Why Disconnections Happen
The connection between ResponseIQ and your Google Business Profile relies on OAuth 2.0 tokens. These tokens can become invalid for several reasons, causing the connection to show as disconnected or expired in your dashboard.
- Token expiration — Google OAuth tokens have a limited lifespan. While ResponseIQ automatically refreshes tokens, prolonged inactivity or Google-side changes can cause a refresh to fail.
- Permission revocation — if you (or a Google Workspace administrator) revoked ResponseIQ's access from your Google account settings, the token is immediately invalidated.
- Password change — changing your Google account password can invalidate all active OAuth tokens for security reasons.
- Google security events — if Google detects suspicious activity on your account, it may revoke all third-party OAuth tokens as a precaution.
- Account ownership changes — if the Google account that originally authorized the connection is removed from the Business Profile, the tokens become invalid.
How to Reconnect
Re-authenticating with Google is straightforward and takes less than a minute. The process re-establishes the OAuth connection and grants ResponseIQ a fresh set of tokens.
- Navigate to Settings from the sidebar menu in your dashboard.
- Click on the Integrations tab.
- You will see your Google Business Profile connection with a "Disconnected" or "Expired" status indicator.
- Click the "Reconnect" button next to the connection.
- A Google sign-in window will appear. Sign in with the Google account that has management access to your Business Profile.
- Review the permissions that ResponseIQ is requesting and click "Allow" to grant access.
- You will be redirected back to your ResponseIQ dashboard with a "Connected" status indicator.
- Review syncing will resume automatically at the next 15-minute sync cycle.
Important
Make sure you sign in with the same Google account that owns or manages the Google Business Profile locations you want to monitor. If you use a different account, your previously connected locations may not appear.
Re-Granting Permissions
During the reconnection process, Google will show you the permissions that ResponseIQ requires. These permissions are the same as those granted during the initial setup:
- View your Google Business Profile locations — required to list and monitor your business locations.
- Read reviews on your Google Business Profile — required to sync new reviews into your dashboard.
- Respond to reviews on your Google Business Profile — required to publish approved AI-generated responses.
All permissions are scoped specifically to Google Business Profile management. ResponseIQ does not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, or any other Google services.
