Publishing Responses to Google

Last updated: 2026-02-19·3 min read

Quick Summary

Publishing a response posts it to your Google Business Profile where it becomes publicly visible as your reply to a customer review. ResponseIQ handles the publishing process through the Google API, and includes a confirmation step to prevent accidental posts.

How to Publish a Response

Publishing is the final step in the review response workflow. Once you have approved a response (either as-is or after editing on the Premium plan), you can publish it to Google with a single click.

  1. Navigate to the Reviews page and find an approved response ready for publishing.
  2. Click the "Publish to Google" button on the review card.
  3. A confirmation dialog will appear showing the response text and the Google listing it will be posted to.
  4. Review the text one final time, then click "Confirm & Publish" to proceed.
  5. The system sends the response to the Google Business Profile API.
  6. Once successfully posted, the review status changes to "Published" and a timestamp is recorded.

The 15-Minute Scheduling Delay

When you click publish, ResponseIQ schedules the response to be posted within the next processing cycle, which runs every 15 minutes. This means there may be a short delay between clicking "Publish" and the response appearing on Google. In most cases, the response will be live within 15 minutes of your action.

Note

The scheduling delay is designed to batch publishing requests efficiently and handle Google API rate limits gracefully. During the delay, the review status shows as "Publishing" to indicate it is in the queue.

Confirmation Dialog

Every publish action triggers a confirmation dialog to prevent accidental publishing. The dialog displays the full response text, the name and location of the Google listing, and the reviewer's name and star rating. You must explicitly click "Confirm & Publish" to proceed. Clicking "Cancel" returns you to the review card without publishing.

Important

Once published, a response becomes publicly visible on your Google Business Profile. ResponseIQ cannot delete or modify a response after it has been posted. If you need to change a published response, you must do so directly through the Google Business Profile interface.

Published Response Badge

After successful publishing, the review card displays a green "Published" badge along with the exact date and time the response was posted. This makes it easy to scan through your reviews and see which ones have been handled. Published reviews are moved to the bottom of the default view so your pending reviews remain front and center.

Troubleshooting Publishing Failures

In rare cases, a publish attempt may fail. Common causes and solutions include:

  • Google OAuth token expired — reconnect your Google account in Settings > Google Connection and try publishing again.
  • Google API rate limit — wait a few minutes and try again. ResponseIQ automatically retries failed publish attempts on the next cycle.
  • Response too long — Google limits replies to 4,096 characters. Edit the response to reduce its length.
  • Review was deleted — if the original review has been removed from Google, the publish will fail. The review will be marked accordingly in your dashboard.
  • Insufficient permissions — confirm that your Google account has Manager or Owner access to the business listing.
